How can I give titles? I am only a Fantasy player... But do a search, check out www.rtsoft.com and then have a look around. I think that ''Seth'' from RTSoft actually made a non-fantasy game... I don''t know if it is an RPG. Do I have to know everything around here? Geez!

I used to play and DM pencil and paper RPG''s such as AD&D with the different settings such as Ravenloft, Spell Jammer, and Forgotten Realms (all TSR.. err.. whatever Magic the Gathering company is called) and many more....

For people how don''t know TSR was bought by Wizards of the Coast who have now been bought Hasbeen sorry Hasbro. So not only can you not make a Asteroids style game (or any thing with a ship and rocks) if you game has cards in it you''ll have the rabid lawyers on you!

What else do you need; besides a miricle.
Money. Lots of Money. or I''ll never do a sequel!

Wavinator : "with the death of non-fantasy RPG"
Are you talking about *computer* RPG or do I have to start my ranting again ??? Because last time I checked, the trend was modern day RPG games more tahn ever (with UFO, conspiracies, psionists, vampires, werewolves, changelings, et caetera ...)

Though I totally agree with you, the main reason is the lack of imagination and enthusiasm of creators. you *CAN* make excellent stories in modern, future or past worlds, you just need a bit of imagination. I think the main reason for the predominance for fantasy in computer RPG is the plain old boring tradition : do what works first. But since no one seems to complain, well, why take any risks ? And even more when the money issues get bigger. Why take the risk of being original ?

If you wanna stop being dissapointed, play pen and paper RPG
Personnaly, my main problem is the absence of players in my region, though I am working slowly on he problem (it takes me time to convert people, but I have done it before )

NeoReality: yeah Lizards on the Toast )) (for those who know card games very well...)

The funniest/scariest thing I know of is the emergence of mega corporations without anyone noticing or being annoyed more than that. I mean, look at the SIZE of Hasbro !!! and what about the military industry, the tobacco lobbies, telecommunication networks, etc.
My good old Cyberpunk scenarios are becoming more realistic day after day.

(has anyone seen the show called FutureCast ??? this is the most freaking good TV show I have seen this whole year, just awfully inspirational !!! )

youpla :-P

Moth sez: ------------->. . .what would a REAL medieval RPG look like?<--------- (to grab a post about twenty up from here)

Try Darklands, a really great RPG-type game that came out a few years ago. It was based in medieval Germany and was relentlessly addictive. Good look finding it tho'', try MobyGames.com to probably see some reviews etc. Come to think of it, that''s a good answer to this whole topic! I know I''ve seen some other RPG genres listed there, I''ll check it out after work and post here if no one else does first.

If you haven''t played Fallout1+2 GET THEM. They''ll be dirt cheap by now aanyways just watch for the bugs.

I think futuristic RPG''s are better anyway I''ve had enough of the fantasy crap. Perhaps Morrowind will get me back into it.

1) Pure Science Fiction
2) Science - Fantasy
3) SuperHero

I would like to see a fantasy still, because I don''t think that I have seen any that are done to my standards. I keep searching. I would like to see a Futuristic/Fantasy one that is somewhat based on the Dune universe (Arrakis the planet, if not the universe). This would rock!

Did you check RTSoft like I said? I think they made a non-fantasy game (I am not sure if it was an RPG) called TEOS. Just try looking in the right places. Ask a BBS SysOp and I am sure they can give you some . And I would not work for Wizards of the Coast! THEY ARE OWNED BY HASBEEN! Damn pricks are buying up all of the greats! At least I still have Games Workshop *sigh*
