Having some experiance from an online programming group, I would suggest that you do everything in your power to keep something going on in your group (encourage program/library submittal for review, for commenting, for fun).

If you dont - things will dry up =(

Hi Bart! Hi Thomas!
I''m a Total Newbie with 0 (thats right Zero) minutes of experience . I tried to lean VB but came across this site and it inspired me to give C++ a try . I''m not sure if I''m the type of person for your team . I actually have some questions about programming and getting started Like :

Can you really learn from books just as much as someone attending College ?

Is jumping into C++ (from what I''ve read the hardest of all languages ) the smart thing to do ?

I have some more questions .... but one thing is certain . I have a passion for programming . I work as a Systems administrator and want to take this up a as a hobby . I want to learn C++ with proficency . Most of all I like to have fun .

If anyone has any good advice I would appreciate it .

I will send and emial if I''m accepted Kezz ....

Thanks !
Chris,

anyone can learn to program. It just takes dedication. i am in college now and if i had the time and the motivation could easily have learned what I am learning now without school . . .

BUT i do believe that college gives you a better base for the theoretical stuff. but you can still learn all of this on your own too . . . its all out there in books. You just need the time.

I started out learning in Java, and then moved to C and C++. I am still honing my skills in C++, but in Java it is now just a matter of being able to use the numerous different APIs they offer. Hope this helps, post up some more questions if you got them.

I would also be interested in participating in a programming
group. Much can be achieved with multiple programmers.

I am however very pessimistic in the organization of such
a group. Particularly with beginner programmers. You must
ensure that the group is talking the same language with
close, frequent communications. Each person must have a
particular job and their code does not mess up the code of
the other group. Hence OOP would have to be used and each
person would have their own class with public and private
data and functions.

The game should already have the technical aspects in tact
at the onset. That would include user input, sound, music etc.
The focus of the group should mostly on the creative
aspects of the game.

It is nice, for beginners to learn this way. But their
should be one person in the group who has a certain amount
of programming experience. This person should also have a
nack for organization as well. The more programmers, the
harder it is to organize. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

The best way, I believe is to have a game already on the make.
In this way, there would be some frame work to build around.
I have been working on a 3D game in Visual C++, Dx 7.0.
It''s frame work was not built for a group, and there would be
considerable difficulty adapting it in such a way. I do
believe it is possible, but very difficult. And maybe 3D is
not a good start for beginners.

But who knows, this is just my opinion.
