A good game NEVER gets old... They are like a fine wine, they get better with time... Because of all the memories and the awesome knowledge of their accomplishments at the time

Very philosophical of you Chris Very Philophical indeed. Now i got to think again, damn you! But some games i loved are absolute crap these days. Have you got Mame32, what a disappiontment so many games were. Although Elevator Action still rocks.

I love Game Design and it loves me back.

Alas no, but I do enjoy pulling out the old BBS games once in a while... that takes me back to high school .. LONG LIVE THE BBS... too bad that all the ones here died once the Internet hit big . LORD ROCKED!

Interesting question Paul. I would agree with you 100%
I''m 35 now, and really cant get into any of those platform games that I use to play (there, I admitted it). Although in the past 5-6 years, I have been playing alot more RPG alike games. It all started with a mud back in ''94, then I discovered Rogue (the father of rogue-like games), and more recently UO and Asheron''s Call. Even with the ammount of fantasy that these games are based around, I find them far more appealing than jumping from ledge to ledge killing balls of goo

My daughters on the other hand enjoy blasting balls of goo. Or better yet... they can play a mean game of Frogger 3d

Give me realism any day... except when I was 13... as long as the game allows me to escape my life or bad day for a few hours, I consider it a good game!

You know, this is so true. I recently replayed two favorites of mine: Starflight (1986?) and Sentinel Worlds (1989?). They were awesome! My only complaint is that the only thing that didn''t age well was the interface (Did I REALLY spend all that time pushing the up and down arrow keys to get to nested menus in Starflight????? Jeeeez!)

PS: I think I''m the only person who took ten years to finish a game! I got stuck when I played Sentinel Worlds in ''89, and didn''t finish the game until ''99! Is that a geek accomplishment or what?

Playing old favorites like Strider and Aliens REALLY shows me what I''d tolerate as a teenager (lotsa button mashing )

Interestingly enough, I find the MAME games can be a true inspiration. The further back in time I seem to go (when graphics were VERY crappy) the more hints and tips I get on creating TRUE GAMEPLAY. It''s a great research exercise.

I played Sential Worlds about 3 months ago, i''ve still not finished it. I remember getting all the way to the end fella and he''d pissed off because i took so long. My excuse is that i was having too much fun blasting all the guards to kingdom come, i didn''t want it to finish and i''m not going to so there

A thought comes to mind about examining those old games for game design research. It''s probably easier becasue your not getting side tracked by tonnes of cool graphics?!

Its nice to meet someone who''s played Sentinal worlds (check, C64?)
