Am I a producer?

So,

I've been struggling with my role for a while now, and recently we did a job description thing for everyone in leadership.

I'm constantly told by the others that I'm technically not a producer. And Calling myself that makes me look bad, and complicates things. My role has evolved some since my last project, before we were a company. Before, we were just a mod, and I was directly overseeing management, PR, HR and writing

I'm trying to figure out if there is a place or job title in game dev that I'd specifically fill.

I'm the Chief Executive Officer / managing member and administrator at Honor Games. He handles all aspects of business and administrative work that keeps the organization running.

These fall within several domains:

Recruiting and Human resources

Posting job ads

collecting, disseminating, and reviewing applications

Interviewing

Administer NDA contracts

Providing access to online collaboration tools such as skype and Google drive

Management

Coordinating and scheduling meetings

Coordinating communications between members

Check on availability of members to do their work

Check In with members on life, and how they are doing aside from tasks

Uphold standards of conduct for all members of leadership.

Business

Facilitate annual federal and state taxes

Fund ongoing operational costs such as website and Google workspace, etc.

Facilitate accounting

Facilitate legal needs

Fund marketing efforts (Future)

Setup online store page such as Steam (future)

Oversee community management and public relations efforts on social media and all online platforms.

Seek external funding.

Represent at events, conferences, and conventions.

Any thoughts?

You're not if you have to ask, but does it matter what job title you have?

You start off with stating you are the CEO. That's a role.
It is very uncommon to also occupy a lower (and thus potentially conflicting) position.

ok,

Thanks guys for the clarification.

Budgets and schedules are usually the realm of the producer, but we never had those.

I feel like I'd be content in Specializing in HR.

Is there a specific role in the games biz that I might be more suited for?

My friend was saying I should look more into the COO position.

I'm sure there are other things I should be doing as the CEO, finding them is a bit elusive when it comes to games.

From a lot of what I read, every startup needs a person responsible and leading the business side, and for the product side.

I have a psychology background and feel a little inadequate in the business role I'm in.

Do any of you have any suggestions?

Especially when it comes to continuing education? would classes be enough or would a certificate or degree of some kind be helpful?

This seems like a bit of a non-problem. If you're staying at your current company then it's not a case of ‘looking into a position’ - you already have a position. The problem - if indeed there is a problem, and I'm not sure there is - lies in that your position covers a variety of roles. This is not uncommon in a small organization,

What is the actual problem you want to solve? Do you want to become more specialized? Are you thinking about your future beyond this company? Or are you just trying to get your teammates off your back for using the wrong title?

So, the main problem I'm trying to solve is indeed my future beyond and besides this company I have.

I'm trying to figure out:

  1. What duties is a CEO meant to fill?
  2. What transferable skills do I have if and when I want to work for another company?
  3. How to market myself in the job market, when I'm looking for a day job?
