What to include in a game design portfolio

Hello everyone,

I am currently finishing my game design degree and I am thinking about what would be good to add to my portfolio. Currently, I feel more confident in my design skills than my ability to actually prototype my ideas. I am still working on improving all of my skills so that I can more easily and fully show my ideas in the future.

In the meantime, I have been designing a game without actually making it. For instance, I have a Game Design Document that I have been working on finishing, but would this be something employers would be interested in, or would they just want to see something actually made?

Once I finish fleshing out the GDD a bit more I will begin digital development, but I think that creating my idea will take me a lot of work at my current level.

I appreciate any advice!
