Hello
I would like to break into the gaming industry, specifically online and mobile gaming. Presently I create cartoon designs and animations for small businesses all around the world, though I have also done some animation work for television commercials.
How is the best way to get involved? Should I find directories of game companies and contact them directly or do you use recruitment agencies to find new game artists for you?
Here are some examples of my work, which are all vector based

Cartoon artist
Looks good. You can apply to the companies through well known job sites (Monster, etc..) or an industry site like this one

You can also go directly to the companies website and see if they have listings there too.
The industry is always looking for talent and with the expansion of casual mobile games, traditional cartoonist are coming back.
Good Luck!

Then this is a "Breaking In" thread, and belongs in Breaking In.
Scott, now that this is moved to the Breaking In forum, back out to the Breaking In forum page and check out "Getting Started" at upper right. You should read FAQs 27 and the Networking FAQ and of course you need to formalize your portfolio.
You might also test the possibility to team up with a game programmer, and do a small mobile game project together. Putting something out there, and use it as a portfolio piece, is a good way of starting up.
