Harvest Moon?

I saw the other day that an N64 version of Harvest Moon. This prompted me to dust off my SNES version and play a little. As I see it, the game''s primary flaw was its repetitiousness, and secondary flaws were its poor instructions and stereotypical character roles. What did other people think about the game? Had you been on the design team, what would you have done to improve it? (You''re not allowed to say "Put monsters in it!" )

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
