From the Programmer

I was getting ready to post last week's newsletter when my computer suddenly crashed and S.M.A.R.T. reported that my HDD was bad. On further inspection, I found out that it was caused by the "Spin Retry Count" going 4 points under the breaking point. Not wanting to lose any data, I quickly backed up various files that the OneTouch backup software missed.

I recently downloaded and installed Windows 7 into a virtual machine, so I decided to try using it as my main OS. I spent the past week getting Windows 7 and various applications installed correctly onto a second drive. Surprisingly, I have only had one program break and that is most likely the fault of the program. Until they release a patch, I would not recommend installing the Jetico Personal Firewall into Windows 7.

A word of warning to anyone who uses the OneTouch backup software: Don't try and restore a backup manually. I am unsure if the software allows you to restore a backup from another OS installation, but I do not recommend copying the files directly from the backup directory. From what I can tell, OneTouch does not delete files from the backup. This might seem like a good thing, but it's not. Every file you moved from one place to another will be in both places in the backup, no matter how long ago you moved it. If anyone could recommend better backup software, please leave a comment. Thanks!

I finished the pillars on the right. Now that I have a reference, the left side should go by quicker.
