Morning's Wrath had really poor sound effects, mainly being comprised of royalty free, sounds I could get for free at the time and modify (plus there was a time crunch); I didn't want Malathedra to suffer a similar fate, and now I'm confident that with the already excellent music, the sound effects are going to complete the package.
I spent the morning choosing, converting and scripting in some basic sounds for the scene showcased in the last shot; it really adds a ton and brings the scene to life.
While there is the added pain of having to convert the audio to mono; our use of 3D sound sources (which require mono tracks) has really turned out to be excellent, it helps make the scene 'pop' more, when you hear southing's audio shift in relation to the camera.
Brian is probably sick to death of hearing it but I'm always talking about 'selling' the scene; which means to convey exactly what we had in mind when writing the story to the user, and it is very difficult to do; we're always tweaking certain scenes to make it 'feel' right, and sound effects is a place where you can help to sell the scene.
