I finally got around to sampling a new local beer today. The brew of choice was
Prinzregent Luitpold, another hefeweizen. The color is medium-dark and very cloudy, which is more consistent with the weissbiers I've had in the past. It has a sharper flavor than the Erdinger, and a very rich fruity aftertaste. Altogether it would be an excellent steak-and-potatoes beer, although it still went quite nicely with the schnitzel cordon bleu and potatoes that I had.
Somehow, in my butchering of trying to speak (and understand) German, I ended up with
two beers. Thusly I had one as a meal drink, and the second by itself. Even as a standalone beer, the Luitpold fares well, even though I tend to prefer having a meal along with my brew.
If I get a chance tomorrow, I'm going to try and get ahold of a darker beer, just to see what the local offering is like.
